Pigeon Point Lighthouse, oh so tall

Beach Life, central coast, Photography, Surf N Pixels

This lighthouse ties with the one in Point Arena for tallest on the West Coast at 115-ft. tall. I kept backing up further and further to get it all in the frame on a very windy day.

It was named for the Carrier Pigeon, which wrecked nearby in 1853 and prompted its construction. There’s a hostel on the park premises, located on Highway 1 in Pescadero.

Young wave riders in Capitola

Beach Life, California coast, central coast, Photography, Santa Cruz, Surf N Pixels, Surfing

By the time we got to Capitola late Sunday afternoon, the intense heat had finally broken, and the coast was foggy. After a sweltering drive to the coast — the car temperature gauge topped 110 degrees in the East Bay area — the marine layer was welcome indeed. These young surfers were riding whatever swells came their way.
