The SS Dominator ran aground in March 1961. Fifty-two years later, the debris is strewn along the Palos Verdes coast.

Whenever the winds kick up for hours on end, rattling the house in unsettling ways, I think of Joan Didion’s seminal essay on gusty weather in these parts.
