Junior girls began paddling it out at the National Scholastic Surf Assn. championships shortly after I got to the Huntington pier late this afternoon.
The girls were really into it.

Today the West Coast Open for young surfers got underway in Huntington Beach, I happily discovered after I got to the pier.
The waves started picking up shortly after I arrived, and so did the surfing.
