The only thing that would have made my visit to Crystal Cove better would have been more time. Maybe next time I’ll figure out why certain OC beaches remind me of east coast beaches I frequented during my younger days.

Winds have died down, thank goodness

Whenever the winds kick up for hours on end, rattling the house in unsettling ways, I think of Joan Didion’s seminal essay on gusty weather in these parts. You have to live here for a while to appreciate how unnerving these howling winds can be. Thankfully, they have mostly died down now. Per the LAT, power has been restored locally; the worst of it is over.
